With a simple re-arrangement of the pattern of the holes, normal drains become Metal-Lace Drains. Normal drains provide the perfect opportunity for applying ornamental principles: the function (draining water, catching dirt) dictates the structure (disk with holes) from which decoration (arrangement of holes into beautiful patterns without obstructing function) can spring.

These drains put the intrinsic open decorative structure of lace into functional use. Drains are very similar to lace in that they have openings, holes, which form a pattern. The existing pattern in a normal drain is already very floral, with the screw in the middle as a flower button and the six holes around it as petals. With a little push, this natural decorative tendency of the drains is further developed. First, the floral pattern is laser-cut out of a piece of stainless-steel, and the the carved metal “plate” is hand-forced into the shape of a drain.

Thus, drains are taken from boring utilitarian objects and transformed into a decorative accessory. As such, the Metal-Lace Drain is the ultimate luxury-good – the luxury you give yourself to decorate your drain!
